Maintaining a strong and efficient cardiovascular system is central to living a long and productive life. Heart disease is consistently the leading cause of death in men and women, and it's not just an effect of old age. Certain lifestyle habits and genetic factors lead to the heart and the body's network of blood vessels to become overworked and damaged. Building a habit of exercise and diet contributes greatly to keeping the cardiovascular system resilient and a solid foundation to support the other delicate systems in the body. Having efficient blood circulation leads to a better metabolism, a robust immune system, and a very good mood and positive self image.
These factors build together to make for many years of happy and healthy living.

Cardio Exercises

To maintain a healthy heart and cardiovascular system, it is essential that you do cardiovascular exercise on a regular basis. Cardio exercises will not only strengthen your heart, but they will also help you to loose weight and maintain overall good health. It is really up to each individual what kinds of cardio workouts they want to do and how often. There are many cardio activities out there to choose from. Here are some good cardio activities:

Walking
Running or jogging
Kickboxing
Aerobics
Swimming
Elliptical Training
For beginners, start off with three days of cardio exercise for 20 minutes or so, adding time each week. If you're an intermediate or advanced exerciser, you can do cardio anywhere from 4 to 6 days a week, keeping in mind that each workout should vary in time, intensity and activity.

Yeah I find running is always the best type of cardio as you can mix it up so much.
Like running up hills or stairs and then back down to work the opposite muscles that were being worked while running up, running down uses much control as too fast can make you lose balance and therefore I find it important.
I also enjoying running in water, like a pool or wiast deep at the beach, this is good in so many ways.
Another one is running on the beach with and without shoes, or the snow.

All these types of running mix it up and if done 3-4 times a week will burn so much fat it's not funny.
